2005 Speedfest Champion Charlie Menard First To Enter

 

Lakeland, FL – The first entries for Speedfest 2007 Presented By Goodyear at USA International Speedway on January 25th through January 27th have been filed. Speedfest 2005 Champion Charlie Menard was the first to file an entry for the 2007 event. The Eau Claire, Wisconsin native looks to return to his winning ways at Speedfest 2007. Menard was victories in the 200 lap finally in the first ever Speedfest defeating fellow Northern drivers Eddie Hoffman in second, Pat Kelly in third and Mike Rowe in fourth. Jay Middleton was the highest finishing Southern driver in fifth place.

 

Sanford, Florida’s Mike Fritts has filed an entry for Speedfest 2007 along with teammate Mike Good. Fritts was the winner in the 200 lap finally in last years Speedfest leading a group of Southern drivers who swept the top four finishing positions including second place finisher Clay Rogers, recent winner of the Snowball Derby, fellow Florida drivers Travis Kittleston in third and Jeff Choquette in fourth. Hoffman was the top Northern driver last season with a fifth place finish.

 

Other drivers entered to date include Canada’s Patrick Laperle winner of the famed Oxford 250 this past season, Boise, Idaho hot shoe Brian Scott under the guidance of legendary late model ace Freddie Query, Pass South Series Champion Mike Rowe, Georgia driver Russell Fleeman and Florida drivers Jeff Choquette, Tim Russell, Brock Burns and Perry Brown. Many more entries are expected over the next three weeks. The early entry deadline is January 12th, teams must pre-enter to be eligible for any bonuses and to secure their number. 

 

Event officials, which will consist of the Sunbelt Super Late Model Series and the CRA Super Series who are co-promoting the event with USA International Speedway, have already announced that the tire for the Speedfest 2007 will be the new generation Goodyear 10” slick with the yellow sidewall lettering.

 

The format and schedule are identical to last year’s, with open practice and technical inspection on Thursday January 25th.  On Friday the 26th, teams will practice, qualify by region, and race in one of the North or South 100-lap qualifying features, with the top 10 from each transferring to Saturday’s SpeedFest 200 Presented By Goodyear. The SpeedFest 200 Presented By Goodyear winner’s check will once again be a minimum of $10,000.
